DaysofPal- Health authorities in Gaza have sounded the alarm over the return of famine and the near-total collapse of the healthcare system, as the ongoing Israeli blockade continues to block humanitarian aid and vital medical supplies from reaching the besieged territory.

Dr. Munir al-Bursh, Director General of Gaza’s Ministry of Health, said on Monday that the Israeli occupation is still preventing the entry of critical medical materials, including intravenous fluids, creating what he described as a “catastrophic reality” for the health sector.

He cautioned that the consequences of the siege are becoming increasingly disastrous, as hospitals struggle to function amid severe shortages of medicine, electricity, and clean water.

According to al-Bursh, cancer treatment has come to a complete halt due to the depletion of essential medications, resulting in at least one death every day.

Patients with chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension are also unable to access their medication.
He further warned of a growing outbreak of the Guillain-Barré virus, linked to the breakdown of sanitation systems and the lack of clean water.

Al-Bursh urged the international community to establish an urgent humanitarian and medical corridor to save thousands of lives.

More than 22,000 patients in Gaza require medical evacuation abroad, including 18,000 who have completed all necessary procedures but are still awaiting Israeli clearance to travel, he revealed.

The warning comes as Gaza faces one of its worst humanitarian crises, with nearly 90% of civilian infrastructure destroyed and around two million Palestinians displaced.

The ongoing genocide has killed over 77,000 people, including 20,000 children and 12,500 women, along with hundreds of medical, media, and humanitarian workers. More than 170,000 others have been wounded.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that the humanitarian and medical situation has reached a critical breaking point, urging for immediate international action to deliver medical supplies and surgical materials.

It warned that the continued suspension of specialized and diagnostic services is deepening the crisis and halting life-saving surgeries, stressing that any further delay in humanitarian intervention would intensify the suffering of Gaza’s population and push the health system beyond recovery.
