DaysofPal- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) confirmed on Sunday that the healthcare system in Gaza is nearing total collapse.
In an official statement, the ICRC warned: “To prevent further loss of life, it is imperative to preserve and strengthen the remaining healthcare facilities.”
The committee noted that most of the casualties from recent incidents in Gaza were civilians trying to reach aid distribution points.
It added that medical teams are facing immense challenges trying to save lives under live fire, putting both their safety and the continued operation of the field hospital at serious risk.
The ICRC stressed that the unprecedented influx of wounded has exhausted medical staff and depleted their capacity.
Furthermore, the committee stated: “In recent days, there has been a sharp escalation in hostilities around the few remaining hospitals in Gaza.”
The Red Cross emphasized the urgent need to protect medical personnel and facilities, as well as to restore medical services, in order to prevent a deeper humanitarian catastrophe.
