Dead Palestinians sentenced to death in Egypt

Days of Palestine, Cairo –Egyptian judiciary turned the cases of three dead Palestinians and a prisoner in Israeli jails to Mufti to approve death sentence.

An Egyptian court decided to turn the cases of former leader of Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas military wing, Ra’ed al-Attar and the former Qassam member Tayseer abu-Sneema to the Mufti to approve death sentence against them.

Both of them were Palestinian citizens and were killed by the Israeli occupation. Ra’ed al-Attar was killed during the Israeli last summer’s offensive on Gaza and Abu-Sneema was killed in 2009.

Meanwhile, the same court decided in the same ruling to turn the case of the Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails Hassan Salama to the Mufti to approve the death sentence.

Salam has been imprisoned in Israeli jails for 19 years and he is spending a life sentence inside the Israeli jails.

All the three people are being accused of helping the first ever elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi to escape from prison –in the case known as Wadi Al-Natroon Prison.

Despite clear facts that these people were involved in the case, but the Egyptian judiciary insists that Hamas was involved in the case throughout these people.

On Thursday, the former Egyptian Chief of Staff Sami Anan, who was one of the senior Egyptian leaders during the transitional period after the revolution, exonerated Morsi, Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas from any involvement in Wadi Al-Natroon case.

The ruling was widely criticised by the Palestinians, the Egyptians and human rights activists. Most critics called the ruling “naïve” and reflects “how much the Egyptian judiciary is being politicised.”
