DaysofPal- Lebanon’s Ministry of Health announced on Monday that 31 people were killed and 149 others injured following Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Six of the victims were killed in the southern suburbs of Beirut, according to local sources, with the remaining deaths occurring in the southern towns of Al-Sultaniyah, Toul, and Al-Shahabiya. Israeli warplanes carried out a series of strikes at dawn on areas in southern Lebanon and the southern outskirts of the capital.
In response, the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon announced the launch of rockets from southern Lebanon toward an Israeli military base south of the city of Haifa.
In a statement issued shortly after midnight between Sunday and Monday, the Islamic Resistance said it targeted the Mishmar HaCarmel missile defense site belonging to the Israeli army, located south of Haifa, using a volley of precision rockets and a swarm of drones.
The statement said the operation came in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing his death as an unjust act carried out by Israel. It added that the attack also aimed to defend Lebanon and its people in response to repeated Israeli assaults.
The group stated that continued Israeli attacks and the killing of its leaders and members justify the right to respond at a time and place of its choosing.
It said Israel cannot continue its military campaign, which has extended for fifteen months, without facing a warning response intended to halt the offensive and secure a withdrawal from Lebanese territory it describes as occupied.
It emphasized that this response is a “legitimate defensive response,” and that “those responsible and concerned must put an end to the Israeli-American aggression against Lebanon.”
