DaysofPal — The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, voiced “deep concern” on Friday regarding the drone attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza. The attack, which occurred the previous night, has left the facility in a state of severe disruption, impacting both patients and staff.
Tedros highlighted the vulnerability of the 80 patients inside the hospital, including eight in the intensive care unit. He also expressed concern for the safety of the hospital staff.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), he explained, “The attack caused damage to the electricity generator on which the entire hospital relies, leaving the oxygen system out of service.” He also mentioned the destruction of the hospital’s water tank, resulting in a lack of water availability.
The situation at Kamal Adwan Hospital is dire. Due to the ongoing genocide and extremely limited access to resources, the hospital is currently unable to make repairs. The attack also left four hospital staff members and two patient companions injured.
Tedros called for an immediate cessation of hostilities around the hospital and demanded sustained humanitarian access to provide lifesaving assistance to those in need. “We urge an immediate end to hostilities in the vicinity of the hospital and sustained access for humanitarian missions,” he said.
This attack comes amid the broader crisis in Gaza, where more than 44,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces since the October 7. In addition, Israel faces multiple legal challenges.
On Thursday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in Gaza.
