DaysofPal- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that severe winter weather in the Gaza Strip is intensifying a humanitarian crisis that has persisted for more than two years amid ongoing Israeli war on the territory.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said on Sunday that heavy rainfall and harsh winter conditions are compounding the suffering of Gaza’s population, where living conditions are already dire.
In a post on the social media platform X, Lazzarini cautioned that continued rainfall means “more misery, despair, and death” for civilians struggling to survive.
He noted that thousands of residents are sheltering in deteriorating tents that have been flooded by rain, often pitched among the rubble of destroyed neighborhoods.
The worsening weather, he said, is exposing displaced families to extreme hardship and heightened risks to their lives.
Lazzarini also highlighted severe shortages in humanitarian assistance, stressing that aid deliveries to Gaza remain far below what is required to address urgent needs.
The lack of sufficient supplies, he warned, is further deepening the crisis faced by the civilian population.
He emphasized that UNRWA stands ready to significantly expand its relief operations if humanitarian access to Gaza is allowed without restrictions, urging the international community to ensure the uninterrupted flow of aid to prevent further loss of life.
