DaysofPal – A senior leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said the Israeli occupation is not abiding by its commitment to honor the ceasefire agreement, warning that continued violations threaten any real chance of ending the ongoing assault on the Palestinian people.
Mahmoud Mardawi, a Hamas official, said on Sunday that the Israeli occupation continues to pursue policies of killing and starvation against Palestinians, despite the understandings reached under the ceasefire framework.
In media statements, Mardawi called on the United States administration to exert genuine pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging Washington to compel Israel to fully implement all provisions of the agreement without selectivity or delay.
He stressed that Israel’s continued evasion of its obligations undermines prospects for a sustained cessation of hostilities, emphasizing that partial or delayed implementation renders the agreement ineffective.
Mardawi also urged the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities, warning against continued silence in the face of ongoing Israeli actions against civilians in the Gaza Strip, according to Al Jazeera.
Mardawi highlighted the need to complete the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and proceed to its second phase, noting that this step is essential to securing a genuine halt to hostilities and alleviating the worsening humanitarian suffering of Gaza’s population.
In a related context, he underscored that any committee tasked with administering the Gaza Strip must be exclusively Palestinian, reflecting the will of the Palestinian people and their national choices, and free from external dictates or interference.
His remarks come against the backdrop of the ongoing war in Gaza, which has continued since October 7, 2023. This comes amidst the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the occupying forces in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, with American and European support.
This genocide has included killing, starvation, destruction, displacement, and arbitrary arrests, in defiance of international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt these actions.
Over 242,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured as a result of this genocide, with women and children making up the majority. In addition, more than 11,000 people are missing, hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and a famine has claimed the lives of many civilians, mostly children. Furthermore, widespread destruction has razed most of the cities and areas of the Gaza Strip to the ground.
