Tor Wennesland, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, voiced his shock about the violence and aggression perpetrated by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied territories, and emphasized the need for the Israeli occupation to protect them.
The UN Coordinator issued a statement voicing deep concern over the ongoing violence and condemning the Israeli settlers‘ assaults on Palestinians two days ago in Huwara, close to Nablus. Israel, as the occupying power, must guarantee the safety of the civilian population, and those responsible must be held responsible, he said.
He expressed his disapproval of the violence perpetrated by settlers against Palestinians, emphasizing that all people must be safeguarded from aggression.
Wennesland expressed his apprehension with regard to the occurrences in Jenin yesterday, which resulted in six Palestinians being killed and more than twenty sustaining injuries in an Israeli army incursion into the northern West Bank city and its refugee camp.
He emphasized the need to put an end to the ongoing cycle of violence without delay.
