DaysofPal – The United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory has amassed enough evidence, according to Chris Sidoti, a member of the commission, to demonstrate that Israeli forces have been committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.
Sidoti explained that the UN commission’s investigation spanned two years and was based on direct evidence collected by its members. The findings include more than 16,000 documented items, such as verified photos and videos, which were cross-referenced with eyewitness testimonies following UN investigative protocols.
He noted that the commission, established by the UN Human Rights Council in May 2021, continued its work using the same methodology since its creation, listening to witnesses and victims and employing satellite imagery and digital forensic tools to document violations.
Sidoti emphasized that the commission’s mandate goes beyond describing crimes; it also identifies those responsible. He confirmed that investigators succeeded in tracing responsibility to specific Israeli military units involved in serious violations and, in some cases, to senior government and army officials who issued direct orders for the crimes committed.
In this context, Sidoti recalled that on November 21, 2024, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza.
He stressed that the commission’s reports are submitted to the UN Human Rights Council and the General Assembly and are made public, denying the existence of any confidential or unreleased reports. Sidoti added that criticism of the commission’s work has come primarily from the Israeli and U.S. governments, while its findings have been widely accepted internationally.
According to the latest figures from Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the death toll among Palestinians since the beginning of the war has reached 68,531 killed and 170,402 injured, underscoring the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe documented in the commission’s files.
