A United Nations independent expert has raised alarm over the potential for Israel’s “genocidal violence” in Gaza to spread to other parts of the occupied Palestinian territories, amid an intensifying military operation in the West Bank.
Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, issued a stark warning on Monday, describing Israel’s recent actions in the West Bank as “a dangerous escalation.”
Albanese cautioned that Israel’s “genocidal violence risks spilling over from Gaza into the entire occupied Palestinian territory,” urging the international community to heed the warning signs.
“The writing is on the wall, and we cannot continue to ignore it. There is mounting evidence that no Palestinian is safe under Israel’s unfettered control,” she stated.
The statement comes in the wake of a surge in violence, with the Palestinian Health Ministry in Ramallah reporting that at least 26 Palestinians have been killed since last Wednesday, following Israel’s simultaneous raids across the northern West Bank. The ongoing military operations have heightened concerns of broader regional instability as tensions continue to escalate.
