DayofPal– On the 24th day of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning, threatening to open the gates of hell if Israeli captives held in the Gaza enclave were not released.
Trump declared that he would call for resuming the war on Gaza if all Israeli captives were not returned by noon on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Israeli opposition leader Yaer Lapid accused Netanyahu of stalling for time and risking the lives of those still held in Gaza, urging him “Go to Qatar’s Doha and release the captives.”
According to Axios, an Israeli official said Hamas’ announcement to delay captives’ handover could be a response to Trump’s “Gaza takeover” plan.
It also could be a sign that the group suspects Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu won’t hold serious negotiations about the second phase of the deal.
Abu Obaida, the spokesperson for Al-Qassam Brigades—the military wing of Hamas—stated that Israel had failed to uphold its commitments under the agreement. As a result, the scheduled release of Israeli prisoners on Saturday would be postponed indefinitely.
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office insisted that Israel was committed to the ceasefire terms as written and would take any violations seriously.
Over in the West Bank, Israeli forces continued their raids, while the Palestinian resistance carried out resistance operations in Tulkarm. The Israeli military escalated its campaign there, forcing dozens of Palestinians to flee from Nur Shams refugee camp as soldiers turned homes into military outposts.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) revealed that the Israeli occupation had forcibly displaced nearly 40,000 Palestinian refugees from the northern West Bank.
