On Saturday, the twentieth Conference of European Palestinians commenced in the Swedish city of Malmö, home to the second largest Palestinian population in Europe after Germany.
Thousands of Palestinians from Europe of varied backgrounds attended the conference, alongside a selection of representatives from the Swedish, Italian and Irish parliaments consisting of deputies from Social Democratic Party, the Left Party, and the Environment Party in Sweden.
Additionally, the event was attended by a number of Swedish authors and municipal councillors.
Swedish and European politicians, activists, and influential figures in the realms of human rights, media, economics, art, and culture from all over the globe participated in the conference.
Nine different conferences will be conducted during the event, the primary two being the Palestinian Women in Europe Conference and the Palestinian Youth Conference. There will be an exhibition dedicated to Palestinian prisoners and a special stage where those who experienced Nakba and makers of return to Palestine in Europe will be honored.
Events in Arabic, Swedish and English, as well as activities such as artistic events, heritage exhibitions, and markets, will be taking place at the conference’s periphery in order to illuminate the various Palestinian national matters, per the conference organizers.
Amin Abu Rashed, the President of the Conference of Palestinians of Europe, revealed that this conference, which occurs every year, is participated in by thousands of Palestinians with differing beliefs from Europe.
Furthermore, he noted that the conference is widespread to European nations’ large capital cities and other cities alike in promotion of the nation of Palestine.
At the conference, held with the motto “75 years on… We will return,” Abu Rashed highlighted that it was an affirmation of “our right to go back to all of Palestine.”
Abu Rashed appealed to Palestinians in Europe to be heavily involved in the conference and sign up for the symbolic return trips to Malmö from throughout Europe.
