Targeting Parked Vehicles in Gaza: Dangerous Escalation against Civilians

DaysofPal- In a chilling new escalation of its war on the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation army has begun targeting parked vehicles, further endangering civilians and deepening the humanitarian crisis.

This indiscriminate tactic, which shows no distinction between civilian and military targets, has left residents terrified and struggling to adapt to an ever-worsening reality.

A Terrifying New Reality

Last Tuesday evening, Fayez Kamal , a resident of western Gaza, narrowly escaped death when an Israeli airstrike targeted a car parked near a destroyed house. “The explosion sent shrapnel flying everywhere,” Fayez recounted to the Palestine newspaper. “I threw myself to the ground, shielding my head. If it weren’t for God’s grace, I would be among the martyrs.”

What shocked Fayez most was that the car posed no threat—it was unoccupied and stationary. He believes this reflects the Israeli occupation forces’ growing desperation and confusion, leading to reckless attacks on anything within range.

Fayez now urges Gaza residents to exercise extreme caution around vehicles, which have become potential targets.

This incident is far from isolated. Across the Strip, similar stories are emerging. In Bani Suhaila , east of Khan Yunis, Saeed Khudair witnessed an Israeli reconnaissance drone bomb a parked car outside a home.

Though no one was injured, the vehicle caught fire, requiring strenuous efforts from residents to extinguish the flames. “There’s no justification for this,” Khudair said. “They’re targeting everything—homes, vehicles, even empty spaces.”

In Jabalia Camp in northern Gaza, Ahmed Abu Amireh described how the Israeli occupation has systematically destroyed vehicles, leaving residents with almost no means of transportation. “Even cars aren’t spared,” he lamented.

“They’ve bombed people, trees, and stones. Now they’re deliberately destroying the few vehicles we have left.” Abu Amireh called on the international community to intervene urgently, condemning these actions as blatant violations of humanitarian norms.

Catastrophic Losses in the Transportation Sector

The devastation extends beyond individual incidents. According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications in Gaza, the Israeli bombardment has caused $3 billion in damages to the transportation sector alone. Approximately 55,000 vehicles —60% of all licensed vehicles in Gaza—have been destroyed.

Additionally, over 2.8 million linear meters of road networks have been obliterated, crippling transportation infrastructure and forcing residents to resort to primitive means like walking, bicycles, donkey carts, and makeshift tuk-tuks.

The Israeli occupation resumed its genocidal campaign on Gaza on March 18, breaking a ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States that had lasted 58 days since January 19, 2025. Since then, the assault has escalated dramatically, with civilians bearing the brunt of the Israeli genocidal war. The targeting of parked vehicles underscores the indiscriminate nature of this war, where no object or person is safe from destruction.

As Israeli occupation intensifies its brutal tactics, including the deliberate targeting of civilian vehicles, the people of Gaza face unprecedented hardship. The international community must act swiftly to hold the occupation accountable and prevent further atrocities.
Without intervention, the cycle of Israeli genocide and Palestinians’ suffering will only deepen, leaving millions trapped in a man-made catastrophe.
