A group of Palestine supporters held a vigil in London on Tuesday, 5 September 2023 in solidarity with Palestinians and others resisting Israeli occupation violations.
Pro-Palestinian activists and organizers protested against the DSEI arms fair which is one of the world’s largest arms fairs for fuel attacks on marginalized communities across the globe including the Palestinians.
The vigil highlighted DSEI’s role in arming Israeli apartheid and other repressive states around the world.
The Participants condemned the presence of Israeli military officials and Israeli arms companies, which develop and use weapons in violence against Palestinians, before selling them as ‘battle-tested’ to other states.
In the first days of this month, apartheid Israel’s militarised attacks have continued apace, with more Palestinians killed across the occupied West Bank.
In 2023, Israeli occupation killed over 200 Palestinians during military invasions, bombing campaigns, and assassinations.
They also called on the British government to end the arms trade between the UK and Israeli occupation through the introduction of a comprehensive military embargo, meaning an end to all military trade and cooperation.
The British government is deeply complicit in Israel’s apartheid regime. It helps to organize arms fairs like DSEI and licenses the transfer of millions of pounds worth of weaponry to the Israeli occupation force.
British complicity runs even deeper than the actions of the government. Financial institutions, like Barclays Bank, also provide support for Israel’s violence against the Palestinian people.
DSEI has faced sustained opposition from a variety of anti-racist and international justice groups, who say the arms fair fuels the transfer of weapons and military technology used in assaults against indigenous and other marginalized communities across the world.
