DaysofPal- A newly published fact sheet by the Prisoners’ Media Office has disclosed new and troubling details about the deaths of 86 detainees from the Gaza Strip who were held in Israeli prisons after being arrested since October 2023.
The report, titled “Martyrs in Chains: Deaths of Detainees and Prisoners in Israeli Prisons (October 2023 – December 2025),” describes one of the deadliest periods in the history of Palestinian detainees.
It documents alleged abuses and violations inside Israeli prisons and detention facilities during this time.
According to the findings, the detainees died under extremely harsh conditions. The fact sheet says torture and other forms of ill-treatment were the primary causes of death often, along with deliberate medical neglect.
It adds that detainees suffering from serious or chronic illnesses were routinely denied adequate medical care.
The report also documents at least 22 cases of enforced disappearance, either during detention or even after the deaths of detainees had been confirmed.
It notes that deaths occurred in several major prisons as well as in Israeli hospitals, where detainees reportedly died while still in custody, underscoring the dangerous nature of the Israeli detention system.
Data included in the fact sheet indicate that the victims came from a wide range of backgrounds, including civilians, laborers, long-term prisoners, doctors, and paramedics.
The report also lists minors and elderly detainees among the dead, some of whom were arrested while wounded or ill or allegedly used as human shields, in the serious violations of humanitarian and legal norms.
The Prisoners’ Media Office said the publication forms part of ongoing efforts to document alleged violations and identify systematic patterns that could amount to war crimes.
It called for independent international investigations, an end to practices of torture and enforced disappearance, accountability for those responsible, and immediate, unrestricted access for international bodies to all detention facilities holding Palestinian prisoners.
