DaysofPal- A Palestinian worker was killed and seven others were injured on Wednesday after their vehicles overturned and came under gunfire during a pursuit by Israeli occupation forces and settlers near the entrance to Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron.
Iyad Abu Zahra, director of Yatta Hospital, said the victim arrived at the facility after the vehicle he was traveling in was targeted with live fire. Another injured worker, who suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh, was taken into surgery.
Local sources identified the victim as Yousri Majed Abu Qubaita. They said the group of workers had been trying to reach jobs inside Israel when settlers and Israeli forces chased them in the Fatah Sidra area of Masafer Yatta. The pursuit led to their vehicles overturning, leaving several workers injured.
Witnesses reported that soldiers and settlers fired at the workers and their vehicles while chasing them along the Umm al-Khair road, causing additional injuries. Following the incident, settlers set fire to one of the vehicles after it overturned.
Such incidents occur frequently near the separation barrier and military checkpoints, where Palestinian workers face risks while attempting to reach workplaces inside occupied territories.
According to data from the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions, more than 44 Palestinian workers have been killed by Israeli fire since the start of the war, while over 34,000 have been detained either at workplaces or during attempts to find employment.
