Palestinian Detainees Continue Civil Disobedience in Israeli Jails For 9th Day in Row
M.Y | DOP -

For the ninth consecutive day, Palestinian detainees in Israeli occupation prisons are continuing to take part in peaceful civil disobedience against the prison administration in response to the announcement of its plans to implement punitive measures put forward by rightwing Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

The National Emergency Committee of Palestinian Prisoners Affairs said on Monday, February 20, 2023 that the measures taken by Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails to confront the oppressive tactics of Ben Gvir will remain in place until they are assured of their freedom.

The Israeli Prisons Service (IPS) has been carrying out group punishments on Palestinian inmates in several jails due to the “disobedience acts they committed.

The new Israeli Government has a systematic practice of daily violations against Palestinians, including deliberate detentions, home demolitions, and compulsory deportation, all of which are aimed at making life difficult and unbearable for Palestinians.

Currently, 4,500 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons, with 400 of them being severely and chronically ill, 31 females, and 500 detained without charge.

Without any effective intervention to prevent the cruel mistreatment, the oppressive and authoritarian policies of the IPS are having a detrimental effect on Palestinian prisoners.
