The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club reported on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, that Rami Ghanem (33 years old), an administrative detainee from the town of Burqin in Jenin, is facing severe health conditions as Israeli prison authorities continue to delay providing him with adequate medical treatment.
Ghanem has been suffering from injuries sustained in an incident before his arrest, and he was scheduled to undergo abdominal surgery. However, the Israeli occupation authorities arrested him, depriving him of the necessary operation.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club stated that Ghanem has been in detention since February 7, 2023, and an administrative detention order has been issued against him for four months at a time. Today, he urgently requires the operation that was originally scheduled for his abdomen, especially as more serious health symptoms have begun to emerge.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club affirmed that Ghanem’s continued administrative detention under the pretext of having a “secret file” is a crime. This crime is further exacerbated by the deliberate medical neglect he is facing.
The numbers of sick administrative detainees, including those suffering from chronic diseases, continue to rise, and yet their arbitrary detention persists.
It should be noted that Ghanem is a former prisoner who has spent years in Israeli prisons. He is married and a father of two children.
As of the end of June this year, the number of administrative detainees has reached 1,132, marking the highest figure since 2003.
Increasing numbers of administrative detainees raise concerns about their health and the lack of proper medical care, highlighting ongoing challenges for Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.
