11 Palestinian prisoners have been on an open-ended hunger strike for several days in protest at their detention administratively, with no indictments or trials.
According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) on Tuesday, the longest hunger-striking prisoners are Mohamed az-Zagheer and Salem Zaidat, both from al-Khalil, and they have entered day nine of their hunger strike.
Other prisoners are Mohamed A’amar and Mujahed Hamed, both on hunger strike for seven days.
Five others have been on hunger strike for six days. They are Kayed and Mahmoud al-Fasfous (brothers), Ra’fat al-Darawish, Jivara an-Nammoura and Muayyad al-Khatib
PPS also said that prisoners Nidhal Khalaf and al-Muntaser Billah Abu Azum started their hunger strike a few days ago.
Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge and is widely used by Israel against the Palestinians solely at the pretext that a person plans to commit a future offense. It has no time limit, and it is based on alleged secret files.
