On Thursday, international institutions and human rights organizations denounced the assassination of political opponent Nizar Banat by the Palestinian Authority’s security services in Hebron.
Palestinian lawyer Muhannad Karajah, director of the Lawyers for Justice group, said Tuesday that he contacted the activist Banat twice. He was in good health, and he did not inform him that he suffers from any health problems.
Karajah pointed out that Nizar, during his contact with him, assured him that the General Intelligence Service of the PA was pursuing him.
He added that Nizar was assassinated in detention, holding the security services fully responsible for the crime.
Karajeh wondered that the recent years had witnessed more than one case of assassination inside the security services headquarters, from Abu Al-Ezz Halawa, Zabour, and Nizar Banat.

Why are these people assassinated inside the security headquarters?
Karajeh called on all the free political parties and the resistance that defend their people to say a true, free word against the arrest and assassination of activist Nizar Banat and others.
He stressed that the crime of assassination means a threat to every defender, activist, and political detainee that his fate is the fate of activist Nizar Banat.
Karajeh stressed that opening an investigation into the assassination of Nizar Banat does not end the problem nor close the file.
The Independent Commission for Human Rights, the Board of Grievances, said that it considers with great seriousness the death of activist Nizar Banat, a candidate for the Freedom and Dignity List for the Legislative Council elections.
