Day of Palestine – Ramallah
The spokesman for the Fatah movement, Hussein Hamayel, confirmed that his movement would not accept holding the legislative elections without holding them in the occupied Jerusalem.
Hamayel told Al-Quds Press that from the first moment of issuing the election decree, we have had diplomatic moves at the level of the international community and the competent institutions for there to be elections in Jerusalem.
The Fatah spokesman added that the elections in Jerusalem are a process of clashing with the Israeli occupation, and we will not allow them to take place except within the true national context, in a way that does not detract from our constants.
He stressed that the Palestinian factions would not accept that these elections be part of establishing "Israeli sovereignty" over the holy city.
Hamayel revealed that the authority called on the international community and the United Nations to have 18 polling stations in occupied Jerusalem instead of 6 centers, as was the case in the 2006 elections, adding that we have not received a response in particular until now.
It is noteworthy that the Palestinian factions stressed in mid-March during their dialogue round in Cairo, the unity of the Palestinian land legally and politically, and the need for the next elections to be held in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza Strip, and to confront any measures that might hinder their conduct, especially in Jerusalem.
