Mauritanian parliamentarians called for the enactment of legislation criminalizing normalization with "Israel" and submitting it as soon as possible for approval.
This came in a joint statement by the representatives of 3 opposition political parties in the Mauritanian Parliament which are the Union of Progress Forces, the Progressive People's Alliance, and the Alliance for Justice and Democracy.
The statement said: "In light of the expansion of the circle of political and economic normalization with Israel and the arrival of its wave to our Maghreb and African regions, it is no longer hidden that there are many pressures exerted by its promoters overtly and in secret to inflict more countries to normalize with it."
The statement called on all parliamentary blocs to make an urgent legislative effort to confirm the reality of the permanent historical national consensus since the establishment of the Mauritanian state regarding support for just issues of liberation, especially the Palestinian cause.
It added that the crime of normalization, apart from being a violation of the consensus of the peoples of the world who love peace, liberation, and anti-colonialism, is a recognition of all the crimes on which the usurper Zionist entity was founded and continues to commit daily crimes.
The former Mauritanian President Mohamed Abdel Aziz took a decision to freeze Mauritania's relations with "Israel" in 2009, and in 2010, the relationship with it was officially cut and the Israeli ambassador was expelled from Nouakchott.
From time to time, the Mauritanian government affirms that its position is firm in supporting the Palestinian people and their right to an independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Last September, Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ismail Sheikh Ahmed confirmed, in press statements, Mauritania's firm position in advocating the right of the Palestinian people to their independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in accordance with the provisions of the relevant United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Mauritanian political forces and organizations announced their refusal to sign agreements to normalize relations between Arab countries with "Israel", which was sponsored by ex-US President Donald Trump, the latest of which was the normalization agreement between Morocco and "Israel".
