Days Of Palestine
The health condition of Palestinian old man and cancer-patient in Israeli detention Mowaffak Orouq, 77 years old, has significantly deteriorated, today said the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Commission.
Orouq is currently in a dangerous and difficult condition as he is experiencing a state of semi-permanent anesthesia. Currently, the Commission said, he only takes a few liquid solutions and has lost a lot of weight.
The old man underwent surgery earlier this month to remove a cancerous tumor in the intestine and the stomach, after the chemotherapy he had undergone failed to heal the tumor.
Orouq, who holds the Israeli nationality, was arrested in 2003 and is serving a 30-year sentence in Israeli prisons for resisting the Israeli occupation.
Deliberate medical negligence is a common punitive measure used against Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails. It is one of the commonly cited motivations for hunger strikers protesting the dismal and cruel conditions endured by detained Palestinians.
There are more than 5,000 Palestinian and Arab prisoners in Israeli jails serving various sentences for resisting the Israeli occupation of their homeland.
