Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya on Saturday phoned Omani foreign minister Yousef bin Alawi to offer his condolences on the passing of Sultan Qaboos bin Sa’eid.
Haneyya expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Omani leadership, government and people on this great loss, wishing every success for Sultan Haitham bin Sa’eid in assuming his new responsibilities as the ruler of Oman.
Sultan Qaboos bin Sa’eid died at the age of 79 on Saturday after suffering for years from an undisclosed illness.
Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq Al Sa’eid was chosen by Sultan Qaboos to succeed him after the family opened and read his will.
The inauguration ceremony took place at al-Bustan Palace on Saturday morning before the funeral of the late Sultan Qaboos Bin Said.
