The Center for Defense of Liberties and Civil Rights, Hurryyat said in a report that the Israeli occupation authorities prevented 7984 people from traveling during the last five years, nine percent of whom are women.
Hurryyat said in a statement on Tuesday that 310 travel bans were documented since the beginning of this year, seven of which were issued against women, noting that this documentation is for individual bans, and excludes collective bans that sometimes affected an entire governorate, such as happened in Hebron governorate in 2014.
The center slammed such measures as a flagrant violation of civil, economic, social and cultural human rights, which were confirmed by the provisions of international humanitarian law, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention, and international human rights law, especially the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The center stressed the importance of concerted efforts by international institutions and the United Nations to put an end to this policy, affirming the continuation of efforts to counter the Israeli occupation authorities of restricting freedom of movement.
Hurryyat pointed out that it has provided legal assistance to 130 citizens banned from traveling, and succeeded in lifting the ban on 57 people, including 9 women, while 42 people were rejected, noting that it is still following up on the rest of the cases.
