Days Of Palestine – Ramallah

Administrative detainee Ahmad Ghannam completed today 60 days of hunger strike in protest against his long detention without charge or trial, which was renewed for two-and-a-half months at the end of last week, said the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).

The PPS expressed concern about the health situation of Ghannam, 42, from Dura in the south of the West Bank, which it said has deteriorated in recent days. He suffers from Leukemia and had to undergo several operations, including bone marrow implantation.

Ghannam, married with two children – four and one-and-a-half year old – was in prison for more than nine years total, the last of which started on June 18.

In addition to Ghannam, said the PPS, five other Palestinians held in administrative detention are still on hunger strike to protest their incarceration for long periods of time without charge or trial. These include: Sultan Khlouf, on strike for 56 days, Ismail Ali, on strike for 50 days, Tareq Qadan, on strike for 43 days, Nasser Jada, on strike for 36 days, and Thayer Hamdan, on strike for 31 days.
