Days Of Palestine [ Gaza ] – Human Rights Institutions Association – HRIA condemns the ongoing IOF aggression on the Gaza Strip since yesterday March 25, 2019. The Israeli warplanes targeted a number of civilian institutions and objects, which resulted in the full destruction of a number of buildings, as well as the partial destruction of a number of houses, shops and public places.
According to the association’s fellow-up team, the Israeli warplanes carried out a series of raids on civilian, commercial and governmental buildings, in addition to a number of agricultural lands in different parts of the Gaza Strip.
The continuation of this aggression and the targeting of civilian institutions by IOF constitute a grave violation of the rules of the international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, and a clear violation of the Rome Statute of the ICC. The International Community should hold its responsibilities and exert pressure on the Israeli occupation to stop this aggression.
HRIA condemns the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and stresses on the responsibility of the Israeli occupation forces to provide protection to the civilian residents of the occupied territories and to protect the civilian objects, therefore it:
- Calls the international community to hold its responsibilities and to condemn the aggression and actively intervene to compel the IOF to stop its ongoing and escalating aggression on the Gaza strip and to respect the international humanitarian law.
- Calls the High Contracting Parties of the Geneva Convention to hold their legal responsibilities under article 1 of the Convention which states that these parties are committed to respect the Convention and to ensure that the Convention is respected in all circumstances, in addition to its obligation to prosecute those who accused of committing serious violation of the provisions of the convention under article 146 thereof.
- Calls the prosecutor of the ICC to open an official investigation into the killings committed by the IOF against the population of the Gaz Strip to ensure that IOF are held accountable.
- Calls the European Union to the suspend the Association Agreement with the Israeli occupation for breaching Article 2, which states that human rights must be respected and that all forms of cooperation with the Israeli occupation to be stopped as a sponsor entity for terrorism.
