An Israeli court sentenced on Monday Palestinian woman with severe burns all over her body to 11 years in prison, NIS20,000 ($5,245) fine.
The Israeli court, in Jerusalem, convicted Israa Jaabis, 32, from the occupied Jerusalem’s neighbourhood of Jabal al-Mukabber over claiming she wanted to detonate her car in an illegal Israeli checkpoint in 2015.
On October 10, 2015, an accident fire set off in her car while it was queuing to cross an Israeli checkpoint in the holy city.
Jaabis’ car was severely damaged and she suffered severe burns all over her body. She suffered burns in her face, chest, back, legs and hands. Eight of her hand fingers were amputated in the incident.
Israeli occupation claimed that she planned to detonate her car to kill Israeli soldiers; however, the incident took place very far from the Israeli checkpoint and none of the Israeli soldiers was affected.
He family said that the fire in the car was caused by a short circuit that set the fire in a domestic gas container she had in the back seat.
The family said that the car included several house appliances as she planned to relocated in a new home in East Jerusalem in order to retain her Jerusalem residency.
