Days of Palestine, New York –About 120 NYU professors joined BDS movement, calling on the school to divest from companies linked to the Israeli occupation.
The call from New York University (NYU) professors is part of the larger boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement that has found some success in student governments, particularly in California.
NYU professors criticised the college’s policy for not disclosing the identities of the firms it is dealing with in order to know whether they deal with the Israeli occupation or not.
Students in NYU are deploying prominent professors to call for transparency in the school’s investments and for divestment.
“I support NYU Out of Occupied Palestine because I am opposed to apartheid, and the international boycott of apartheid in South Africa was a significant factor in its demise,” English Professor Elaine Freedgood said in a press statement.
Other professors who signed the petition include: Iraqi novelist Sinan Antoon; historians Greg Grandin and Zachary Lockman; and Ella Shohat, a well-known cultural studies scholar.
