Days of Palestine, Gaza Strip –One-month baby boy froze to death on Saturday in Gaza Strip amid an ongoing cold snap that struck the region.

The baby was named as Maher al-Laham from the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis. Spokesman of the Palestinian Ministry of Health Ashraf al-Qidrah said this is the second baby to freeze to death in 24 hours.

According to Al-Qidra, the first was the four-month baby girl Rahaf abu-Assi from the town of Khuzaa, to the east of Khan Younis, south of the Strip.

Al-Laham’s family is living in a dilapidated house with a roof of very thin metal plates. His father has been trying to rebuild his house for years, but the eight year Israeli blockade has been always the obstacle before his efforts.

In the war-torn coastal enclave, there are no appropriate shelters to keep the needy and homeless during such extreme cold waves.

For baby girl Abu-Assai, her family is living in a makeshift house consisted of thin metal plates. It was constructed after the 51-day massive Israeli war against the Strip, which claimed the lives of more than 2,160 people and wounded more than 11,000 others.

During the war, the Israeli occupation destroyed tens of thousands of houses and left more than 300,000 Gazans homeless.

The Israeli occupation, backed with the international community and Arab states, is still objecting to lift the strict blockade on the Gaza Strip or, at least, to allow fuel for the sole electricity plant.
