Days of Palestine, Jerusalem –Under heavy police protection, Israeli Knesset Member Shuli Mualem broke into Al-Aqsa Mosque on Monday morning.
Accompanied with 20 other Jewish settlers, Mualem attempted to ascend to the Dom of the Rock, but the Palestinian worshipers, mostly women, prevented her.
Mualem, from the extremist Israeli party Jewish Home, and the other settlers broke into the Mosque through Al-Magharbeh Gate.
Despite the state of high tension in the holy city and Al-Aqsa Mosque, she insisted to desecrate the Mosque, knowing this provokes the feelings of Muslims.
As the Palestinians worshipers prevented Mualem from entering into the Dome of the Rock, the Israeli police assaulted them and arrested one named Sahar al-Natsheh.
On Sunday, the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Al-Aqsa Mosque is the holiest place for Jews since the time of Abraham and insisted on the right of Jews to pray there.
While on Saturday, the Israeli Housing Minister Uri Ariel said that Jerusalem, including Al-Aqsa Mosque is under full Israeli sovereignty.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest place for about 2 billion Muslims around the world. It is located in East Jerusalem, which the international community considers an occupied Palestinian territory and is planned to be the capital of a potential Palestinian state.
