UK protesters urge boycott of Israeli goods

Days of Palestine -

Days of Palestine, Plymouth –Large numbers of British activists protested on Sunday in Plymouth against Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

The Plymouth Palestine Solidarity Campaign handed out leaflets, urging people to boycott Israeli goods as the war claimed yet thousands of lives.

Joy Davies, a member of the group, said the aim was to raise awareness of what was happening in Gaza and urge people to take action.

Joy said that she has been shocked at how Palestinians were treated in their own land, learning that their homes have been demolished, their water restricted, arbitrary power cuts and farmers attacked by settlers.

The staggering death toll of Palestinian children caused by the Israeli occupation, has resulted in outcry across the globe, while Israeli leaders have laid the blame at the foot of Hamas, the Palestinian militant Islamist movement, which was elected to power in the region in 2006.

Joy said: “I believe all peoples have the basic right to freedom and self-determination. Palestinians do not have that right.

Israel is an apartheid state and that is why today’s call was for boycott of Israeli goods.

“Nelson Mandela said: ‘We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians’. We beat South African apartheid, we can beat Israeli apartheid.”

Joy urged people to join the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and boycott Israeli goods.
