Days of Palestine, Gaza –UNRWA General Commissioner Pierre Krenpol called on Sunday evening upon international community to probe Israeli targeting UN shelters in Gaza.
Krenpol said that it is necessary to launch and immediate investigation into the Israeli bombing of the UN schools in the Gaza Strip during the war.
In a press conference he told in one of the UN schools used as shelter, he also strongly condemned targeting displaced civilians, “who fled their houses” and sought refuge in the UN schools. “This shame on the forehead of the world,” he said.
More than 45 Palestinian civilians were killed in three “deliberate” Israeli attacks on UN schools during the war. More than 150 others were wounded in the attacks.

The UN official said that his organisation offers services to more than a million Palestinians under Israeli siege and aggression in the Gaza Strip. He said that the Israeli war obliged thousands of Palestinians to leave homes and seek refuge in the UN schools.
He noted that the UNRWA is offering aids to more than 200,000 Palestinians in UN schools and more than 300,000 others in their homes or other places.
Expressing his surprise over the size of destruction caused by the Israeli war on Gaza, Krenpol said: “We saw massive destruction in several places such as Beit Hanoun, Khuza’a, Sheja’ia and many other places,” he said. “We have never seen such destruction.”
