Days of Palestine – Ramallah

Seven Palestinian prisoners have been on open-ended hunger strike for different periods in protest at their detention administratively, with no indictments or trials.

Prisoner Kayed al-Fasfous, from Dura town in al-Khalil, is considered the longest hunger striker as he has been on hunger strike for 102 days.

The other hunger-striking administrative detainees are Miqdad al-Qawasmeh, Alaa al-Araj, Hisham Abu Hawash, Shadi Abu Aker, and Eyyad al-Harimi and Ra’fat Abu Rabiee. They have been on hunger strike for 94, 77, 68, 60, 31, and 7 days respectively.

Most of the hunger strikers, especially hunger strikers Fasfous and Qawasmeh, suffer from life-threatening health issues due to their protracted hunger strike, according to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs.

In a related context, the family of hunger striker Alaa al-Araj warned that his health is in a critical state and he is at imminent risk of organ failure.

His wife, Asmaa Quzmar, appealed to everyone capable of helping Alaa and the other hunger strikers to save their lives before it is too late.

Alaa al-Araj is a civil engineer from Tulkarem. He has been jailed and administratively detained several times since 2013.
