Days of Palestine – Jerusalem
The Israeli occupation authority on Friday morning forced a Jerusalemite family to demolish a section of its home in the Silwan district.
According to the family of Yaghmour, the Israeli municipality forced it to demolish part of the house at the pretext of unlicensed construction.
The house was built before 1967 and expanded later, about 16 years ago, after the members of the family increased.
Eight years ago, the Israeli occupation authority forced the family to pay 8,000 shekels in fines for expanding the house.
The family also paid another penalty of 16,000 shekels in recent months and received a demolition order against that additional section of the house.
The family said it had to demolish that part of the house to avoid paying exorbitant money to the municipality if its crews came and carried out the measure.
The Jerusalemites have no choice but to build without licenses because there are no structural maps that respond to the natural increase in their numbers, and for that reason, they are denied house permits.
The Israeli occupation authority also imposes building restrictions on the Palestinian natives in Jerusalem and makes it hard for them to obtain construction licenses.

Israel’s systematic demolition of Palestinian homes in Occupied Jerusalem is believed to be aimed at psychologically destroying the Jerusalemite families in an attempt to force them to move from the holy city.
