DaysofPal- Over 130 humanitarian organizations, including Oxfam, Save the Children, and Amnesty International, have jointly called for the immediate shutdown of the Israeli- and U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), accusing it of playing a direct role in attacks on Palestinians desperate for food.
In a powerful joint statement issued Tuesday, the NGOs said Israeli forces and armed groups “routinely” fire on civilians attempting to access aid.
Since the GHF began operating in late May, more than 500 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 4,000 wounded while seeking food, according to the report.
The groups condemned the GHF as a “violation of humanitarian norms,” charging that it has replaced more than 400 local aid points—previously used during a temporary ceasefire—with just four overcrowded and militarized distribution zones now under Israeli control. These sites, located primarily in Gaza’s southwest and center, have become deadly flashpoints.
“Palestinians in Gaza face an impossible choice: starve or risk being shot while trying desperately to reach food to feed their families,” the statement said. “Orphaned children and caregivers are among the dead, with children harmed in over half of the attacks on civilians at these sites.”
The statement warned that, under conditions of extreme hunger and growing famine, the centralized aid model forces desperate civilians to travel long distances only to be met with chaos and violence.
“Amidst severe hunger and famine-like conditions, many families tell us they are now too weak to compete for food rations,” the NGOs added, stressing that the GHF “is not a humanitarian response.”
The groups are urging international donors and decision-makers to immediately withdraw support from the GHF and instead prioritize restoring safe, community-based aid delivery channels that do not endanger the lives of Gaza’s 2.2 million residents.
