DaysofPal- Palestinian authorities said on Tuesday that more than 10,000 Palestinians remain unlawfully held captive in Israeli prisons, despite the exchange of detainees and captives linked to the Gaza truce agreement.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, 1,968 Palestinians have been released since the start of the prisoner exchange deal announced last week.
However, the ministry said that the Israeli occupation continues to detain thousands more under arbitrary and illegal conditions, including administrative detainees who are held without charge or trial.
Officials also reported that at least 77 Palestinians have died in Israeli detention centers over the past two years, alleging systematic abuse, medical neglect, and poor prison conditions.
The ministry’s statement further revealed that 360 Palestinian children are currently imprisoned, many of whom were taken from their homes in nighttime raids across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Rights groups have repeatedly accused the Israeli occupation of violating international law by subjecting minors to military courts and prolonged interrogation without legal representation.
Palestinian officials urged the international community and humanitarian organizations to intervene, demanding the release of all remaining detainees, especially women, children, and the sick.
The prisoner exchange is part of a broader ceasefire deal mediated by regional and international actors, aimed at ending months of intense fighting in Gaza.
Despite the releases, the Israeli occupation continues to use mass arrests as a means of collective punishment and control.
Human rights groups, including Amnesty International and Addameer, have echoed calls for accountability, warning that the widespread use of administrative detention constitutes a grave violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
