The Government Media Office in Gaza announced on Monday that the number of journalists killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of Israel’s genocidal war has risen to 255, following the killing of journalist Saleh al-Jaafrawi on Sunday.
According to the statement, al-Jaafrawi, a journalist and activist, was shot dead by Israeli collaborators while covering the massive destruction caused by Israel’s ongoing military assault and acts of genocide in southern Gaza City.
The office strongly condemned what it described as the targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists, calling on the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, and all press associations worldwide to denounce these systematic crimes against journalists and media workers in Gaza.
It held Israel and its “criminal gangs,” along with the U.S. administration and all states complicit in the genocide, fully responsible for these brutal crimes, describing them as part of the broader campaign of extermination and aggression against the Palestinian people.
The Government Media Office also urged the international community and media organizations to condemn Israel’s crimes and take effective measures to prosecute those responsible before international courts.
It further called for bringing Israeli war criminals to justice and exerting serious international pressure to enforce a permanent halt to the genocide, ensure protection for journalists in Gaza, and end the ongoing assassinations targeting members of the press.
