OIC Committee of Six to Launch Global Action to End Israeli Occupation of Palestine

At Friday’s Committee of Six on Palestine gathering in Nouakchott, Mauritania, the SecretaryGeneral of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, emphasized the importance of Member States submitting written and verbal statements and providing financial aid to back the privileges of the Palestinian people and terminate the Israeli colonial domination, which is illegitimate and unlawful according to global law and UN decrees.

He emphasized the OIC‘s steadfast stance regarding the Palestinian issue and the holy city of Jerusalem, urging collective action based on the values of fairness and international legal principles.

Riyad Malki, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palestine, issued a notice that emphasized the perilous circumstances in the Palestinian territories that are under the Israeli occupation, due to the intensification of Israeli offenses, raids, and transgressions against the Palestinian population, its land, and its holy sites.

At the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC Member States in Nouakchott, the OIC Committee of Six on Palestine expressed their approval of the United Nation General Assembly‘s 77th session resolution which asked the International Court of Justice for its opinion on the nature of Israeli occupation of Palestine, including Jerusalem, and the legal consequences it has on all countries and the UN.

The Committee urged the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to take all necessary measures to ensure that the Israeli occupation, abides by the regulations of the Fourth Geneva Convention in the Palestinian territories under occupation, including Jerusalem.

In addition to supporting Palestinian initiatives in the international arena to achieve justice, provide international protection for the Palestinian people, affirm their legitimate rights, hold the Israeli occupation responsible for its persistent crimes and violations, and initiate a political process, under multilateral international auspices, conducive to ending the Israeli occupation and achieving the establishment of the independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Committee of Six on Palestine is comprised of Pakistan, Senegal, Guinea, the State of Palestine, Malaysia, and the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
