The Government Media Office in Gaza has accused the Israeli military of committing what it calls a “horrific crime of genocide against childhood,” reporting that 490 children have been killed over the past 20 days in a wave of relentless attacks.
In a statement released on Sunday, the office painted a devastating picture of the situation: “We’re living a nightmare where entire families are being erased, childhoods are buried beneath the rubble of their homes, and a new chapter of darkness is being written in the history of humanity’s worst crimes.”
The statement claimed that the scale of the violence and the number of children killed point to a deliberate and systematic policy of targeting Palestinian children in Gaza. During this period, it said, the total death toll from Israeli airstrikes has reached 1,350.
The Media Office strongly condemned what it described as ongoing, systematic violence against both children and civilians, framing it as part of a broader campaign of genocide against the Palestinian people. It called on the global community — including legal, humanitarian organizations, and world governments — to stand up and speak out against the atrocities.
The office also placed direct responsibility on Israel, as well as nations it accuses of supporting or enabling the attacks — specifically the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. It said their continued support or silence amounts to complicity, which will remain a permanent mark on their historical legacies.
“The world’s silence — its refusal to hold the occupation accountable — is nothing short of complicity in a genocide playing out in broad daylight,” the statement read.
The office urged urgent action from the international community, including human rights organizations and international courts, to stop the bloodshed and initiate serious investigations into what it described as crimes against children and innocent civilians.
It ended with a powerful message: “History won’t forget this silence. The innocent children who lost their lives — and the blood that washed away the shame of inaction — will remain etched in our collective memory.”
