DaysofPal – Thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets of Stockholm and Rome on Saturday, joining a growing wave of international protests demanding an immediate halt to Israel’s assault on Gaza and accountability for what many are calling acts of genocide.
In Stockholm, protestors gathered in front of government buildings and central city squares, urging the Swedish government to take concrete action. Organizers demanded the condemnation of war crimes, an end to arms deals with Israel, and the imposition of political and economic sanctions on the occupying power.
Meanwhile, in Rome, an estimated hundreds of thousands marched in one of Italy’s largest pro-Palestinian demonstrations in recent memory. Spearheaded by opposition parties and human rights groups, the protest denounced the Italian government’s continued political and military ties with Israel, which they say amount to complicity in war crimes.
Demonstrators in Rome carried banners reading “Stop the massacre, stop the complicity!” alongside Palestinian flags and placards calling for justice, peace, and liberation. Chants of “Free Palestine” and “End the siege on Gaza” echoed through the streets of the Italian capital.
These demonstrations form part of a wider European solidarity movement, with parallel rallies taking place in Berlin, Paris, Madrid, and other cities. The protests come amid mounting outrage over reports from human rights organizations documenting the catastrophic humanitarian toll in Gaza.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have launched a relentless military campaign on the besieged Gaza Strip. According to Palestinian sources and international rights groups, over 180,000 people have been killed or wounded, the majority of them women and children. More than 11,000 remain missing, and hundreds of thousands have been forcibly displaced, with entire neighborhoods flattened.
Human rights advocates describe the situation as one of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent history. Many accuse Israel of pursuing a policy of collective punishment and ethnic cleansing, with full diplomatic and military backing from the United States and other Western powers.
As governments continue to fall short of concrete action, protestors across Europe vow to keep mobilizing until the bloodshed stops, the siege is lifted, and those responsible for war crimes are held accountable.
