Lazzarini: Gaza is “No Land” for Children

DayofPal– At least 100 children have been killed or injured every single day in Gaza, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), since the resumption of the war on March 18th.

The unrelenting assault underscores a humanitarian catastrophe of staggering proportions.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini characterized the situation as “harrowing,” asserting that Gaza has become “a land where children can no longer survive.”

Lazzarini revealed that approximately 15,000 children have murdered since the onset of the genocidal campaign.

“The ceasefire earlier this year gave children a chance to live, to be children,” Lazzarini stated on X. “But the return of war has stolen their childhood again.” He further emphasized that “the killing of children is unjustifiable, anywhere and anytime.”

Lazzarini also dnounced the ongoing atrocities as “a stain on our common humanity.” His impassioned plea concluded with a renewed call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s humanitarian infrastructure continues to collapse under the weight of sustained Israeli bombardment.

Assem Al-Nabeeh, spokesperson for the Gaza Municipality, reported that 75% of the city’s equipment and infrastructure has been destroyed, rendering the provision of basic municipal services nearly impossible.

In addition, access to clean water, adequate shelter, and proper sanitation is now virtually nonexistent, he revealed.

The recent destruction of a desalination facility in Al-Tuffah by Israeli airstrikes has further exacerbated an already dire water crisis. The attack ignited fires and crippled one of the few remaining sources of potable water.

More than 90% of Gaza’s population is now deprived of clean water, with over 700 wells obliterated since the onset of the war.

Compounding the devastation, Israel has imposed a near-total blockade on humanitarian aid since March 2, halting the delivery of food, medicine, and other essential relief supplies. Human rights organizations have issued stark warnings that the region is on the precipice of full-scale famine.

Since October 7, 2023, over 165,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been killed or wounded, with an estimated 11,000 people still unaccounted for.

Despite widespread international condemnation and calls for restraint, the Israeli military campaign in Gaza continues unabated, bolstered by unwavering support from the United States.
