The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs warned on Sunday, 9 April 2023 of the consequences of Israel’s continued violation of the historical and legal status quo in the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The official spokesman for the ministry Sinan Al-Majali warned that Israeli forces’ violation of the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and attack worshipers again in preparation for major incursions by Israeli settlers into the mosque will push the situation towards more tension and violence.
“Israeli government bears responsibility for the escalation in occupied Jerusalem and in all the occupied Palestinian territories,” He said
Al-Majali added, “Jerusalem Endowment Administration and the Affairs of the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the only entity authorized to manage the affairs of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
“They are able to guarantee its security if Israel stops its attacks on Al-Aqsa, lifts the restrictions it imposes on it, and respects the historical and legal status quo in the holy sites and the worshipers’ right to worship,” he noted.
The ministry stressed that the Israeli attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Muslim worshipers are sparking violence and increasing tension, considering that “Israel’s end of its violation of Al-Aqsa and the right of Palestinians to perform their religious rituals will prevent further tension.”
Last Tuesday, Israeli occupation forces stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque and brutally attacked Palestinian worshipers, including women.
200 Palestinians were reportedly injured as IOF stormed Al-Qibli Prayer Hall in Al-Aqsa Mosque, attacked worshipers, and targeted them with tear gas canisters.
Israeli forces detained nearly 500 Palestinian worshipers, according to the commission of detainees and ex-detainees in Palestine.
Colonial settlers’ backed by the Israeli occupation forces repeatedly invade Muslims and holy places in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem in a flagrant violation of all international conventions and laws that guarantee Palestinian people’s right to worship in their sacred places.
