DaysofPal- Twenty-three people have been killed and several others wounded since dawn on Tuesday due to a series of Israeli airstrikes on the central and southern Gaza Strip, targeting homes and tents that were housing displaced persons. This escalation is part of the renewed military action by Israel, which resumed on March 18.
In Khan Yunis, located in the southern Gaza Strip, two Palestinians, including a child, were killed, and others were wounded in an Israeli airstrike on a house in the Qizan al-Najjar area.
In Hamad City, north of Khan Yunis, three Palestinians, including a child, were killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a tent housing displaced persons.
Earlier, injuries were reported from an airstrike on a house in the Musabah area of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
A Palestinian was also wounded in an airstrike east of Abasan al-Kabira. Attacks on a residential area in the al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip and on al-Nakhil Street in Deir al-Balah were also reported, with five people killed and over 20 injured.
In the al-Zawayda area, Israeli warplanes targeted a house sheltering several displaced families, resulting in multiple injuries.
Israeli aircraft also launched three airstrikes on Gaza City, one of which targeted an empty Jeep in the airspace.
The Israeli military said it had attacked more than 100 vehicles used by Hamas in its military operations since the renewed war in Gaza.
It added, “We will continue to operate against armed groups in Gaza to eliminate any threat to Israeli citizens.”
The Israeli military also acknowledged last night that it had opened fire on an International Red Cross facility in Rafah, which is located south of the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations affirmed that the shelling of its compound in Gaza last week was caused by an Israeli tank.
The Israeli military said in a statement that its forces operating in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, had fired at a building earlier today after spotting suspects and sensing a threat to its forces. There were no injuries, but minor damage was reported to the building.
The Israeli statement added, “Following an examination, it was determined that the sighting was erroneous and that the building belongs to the Red Cross. The incident will be investigated.”
The International Committee of the Red Cross, for its part, reported that a shell damaged one of its offices in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, on Monday, but that no one was hurt.
In a statement, the ICRC strongly condemned the attack on its headquarters, adding that it directly impacts its ability to operate. However, it did not hold any party responsible.
The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip reports that 15,613 children have been killed since the Israeli war began on October 7, 2023. The ministry explained that among the children killed were 825 infants under the age of one, noting that the number of child martyrs represents 31% of the total number of martyrs in Gaza.
