DaysofPal — The Israeli occupation’s government has prepared a new settlement plan to expand the municipal area of Jerusalem, marking the first move of its kind since the city was occupied in 1967, according to a report by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
The plan includes the construction of hundreds of housing units for ultra-Orthodox settlers in northern Jerusalem.
It also aims to enlarge the jurisdiction of the city’s municipality by incorporating land extending toward the area of Ramallah in the West Bank.
According to the report, the project would expand the settlement of Neve Yaakov toward the settlement of Adam, creating territorial continuity between the two.
Plans also include constructing a bypass road surrounding both settlements along the route of the separation barrier.
The initiative is reportedly part of a broader strategy aimed at consolidating Israeli control over land across the West Bank.
The wider plan involves re-registering land ownership, canceling the application of previous Jordanian law, and permitting settlers and Jews more broadly to purchase land, based on a decision by the Israeli security cabinet that was approved by the government on Sunday.
