Israeli occupation navy boats fired Sunday, October 16, 2022 heavy machine guns and poisonous gas bombs at Palestinian fishermen’s boats, to the southern of the Gaza Strip.
Eye-witnesses reported that the occupation navy stationed inside the gunboats perched in the sea of the Gaza Strip, fired heavy machine guns and poison gas canisters towards the fishermen’s boats in the sea of Khan Yunis Governorate, forcing them to withdraw from the sea.
It is noteworthy that the occupation boats deliberately target on a daily basis the fishermen working in the sea of the Gaza Strip and deprive them of their livelihood.
In addition to attacking fishermen, Israel regularly bans boats from accessing the water and reduces the fishing zone accessible to Gazan fishermen.
Israeli naval authorities have been enforcing a naval blockade on Gaza’s 40-kilometer-long coast since 2007 as this blockade has restricted fishing for the 3,700 registered fishermen in Gaza – the majority of whom live below the poverty line.
