DayofPal—Dozens of Palestinian students were injured on Tuesday after Israeli forces stormed the campus of Birzeit University, north of Ramallah.
The moment Israeli forces broke into the university campus, it fired live ammunition and tear gas at students.
41 students were injured, including nine who sustained gunshot wounds, one seriously, during the raid.
Birzeit University also reported that many students suffered from tear gas inhalation.
Israeli forces, in addition, detained several students, a lecturer, and journalists near the entrance of the Faculty of Commerce.
According to local sources, Israeli forces raided multiple university buildings and confiscated equipment belonging to the student movement that had been prepared for an event in support of Palestinian prisoners.
The event was also set to include a protest against Israeli wars in Gaza and West Bank, and a screening of the film “Hind Rajab”, scheduled for noon.
Rafi Asfour, head of the Birzeit University Employees’ Union, said the raid coincided with a student-organized protest against the ongoing Israeli aggression in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
He added that the incursion was an attempt to display force and impose control, as Israeli forces fired live ammunition, tear gas, and sound grenades.
The Palestinian Ministry of Education condemned the assault, describing it as a “flagrant violation of international conventions,” and stressed that such attacks will not break the will of educational institutions committed to their academic mission despite ongoing targeting.
