DaysofPal- The Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has called for the imposition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, declaring that 2025 will be the “Year of Sovereignty.”
The far-right Smotrich stated that such a move would prevent the establishment of the “Palestinian state” beside the state of the Israeli occupation.
Smotrich emphasized that imposing sovereignty would be a “historic turning point,” adding that any Israeli prime minister who makes this decision “will go down in history.”
He also indicated that no Palestinian state would be allowed under any circumstances, threatening to “discriminate” against the Palestinian Authority if it attempted to oppose this step.
In related remarks, the Israeli minister claimed that the U.S. administration supports the Israeli direction in eliminating the idea of a Palestinian state, citing changes in American leadership that bolster these positions.
The Palestinian Authority regarded Smotrich’s statements as an official declaration of the Israeli intent to annex the West Bank, describing them as a blatant challenge to international law and a call to escalate tensions in the region.
The Palestinian presidential spokesperson held the Israeli occupation and the U.S. administration fully responsible for the consequences of these policies.
