DayofPal—Palestinian journalist and activist Saleh Al-Jaafrawi, 27, was killed Sunday evening in Gaza City by Israeli-backed gang of Dughmush in Gaza’s Sabra neighborhood.
The attack occurred while Al-Jaafrawi was covering the aftermath of Israeli attacks in the Al-Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City. His body, shot by seven bullets, was transferred to Al-Baptist Hospital.
Al-Jaafrawi had gone missing earlier in the day during his coverage of the destruction left by the Israeli military’s ongoing assault. According to eyewitnesses and local media, he was shot and his equipment was stolen by the assailants.
Family sources and activists confirmed that Al-Jaafrawi had previously received death threats from Israeli authorities amid an intense incitement campaign targeting Palestinian journalists and influencers who documented acts of genocide in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Saleh Al-Jaafrawi was well-known for his strong support for Palestinian resistance, his humanitarian activism, and his pivotal role in documenting Israeli crimes against civilians during the war.
He had built a significant online following by sharing uncensored scenes from Gaza, amplifying the Palestinian narrative in the face of international silence.
Just last month, Avichay Adraee, the Israeli army’s Arabic spokesperson, singled out Al-Jaafrawi in a public post on X, mocking him after he appeared in a widely circulated image covered in ash and debris following an Israeli strike on the 16-story Al-Ghefari Tower in western Gaza.
The incident bore disturbing similarities to a previous incitement campaign by Adraee against Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif, who was later assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on August 10, 2025.
In response to the threats and smear campaign, Al-Jaafrawi had posted a Quranic verse once shared by Al-Sharif before his death, signaling his determination to continue reporting the truth despite the growing danger.
In previous interviews, Al-Jaafrawi confirmed that he had been targeted repeatedly by Israeli forces, and many Palestinian activists had warned that his life was in grave danger.
His death has sparked outrage and grief across Palestinian, Arab and Islamic communities, with many calling for an international investigation into the systematic targeting of journalists in Gaza.
