DayofPal– Israeli authorities have forcibly evicted the Al-Basha family from their historic home in the heart of Jerusalem’s Old City, according to Al-Qastal news.
The residence, located on Al-Wad Street, will now be annexed and transformed into a Jewish synagogue, marking a significant shift in the city’s demographic and cultural landscape.
A court ruling issued by an Israeli tribunal ordered the eviction of the Al-Basha family, giving them a two-month deadline to appeal the decision. The family has firmly rejected the ruling, stating their steadfast commitment to their right to the property, which they consider an integral part of Jerusalem’s Arab and Islamic heritage.
Abdel Majid Al-Basha, a member of the displaced family, expressed deep dismay at the court’s decision, underscoring the historic significance of their home, which has stood for generations.
“This decision is an unjust affront to our rights,” he said. “Our home represents a piece of Jerusalem’s identity, and we refuse to let go of it without a fight.”
The family’s lawyer, Mohamed Mufid Al-Basha, emphasized that the ruling goes beyond a legal dispute. It is a direct attack on the Palestinian presence in Jerusalem.
“This is not just a legal injustice, but a clear attempt to erase Palestinian heritage from Jerusalem,” he said, adding “We will do everything in our power to challenge this decision and prevent its execution.”
This latest move is part of a broader Israeli strategy to displace Palestinian families from their homes in the Old City, a region that holds deep historical and spiritual significance for Palestinians and Muslims worldwide.
Critics argue that the eviction is part of an ongoing effort to alter the city’s demographic makeup and push Palestinians out of their ancestral homes.
The Al-Basha family’s battle is not just about one house; it is a symbol of the larger struggle to preserve Palestinian heritage in the face of continued occupation and displacement in Jerusalem.
